Frequently Asked Questions
- What types of injury and accident cases do you handle?
At Maas & Marinovich we have the experience and skill to handle a wide range of injury and accident cases. At our firm, we offer representation to clients who have sustained an injury as the result of an auto accident, motorcycle accident, truck accident, dog bite, burn injury, catastrophic injury, or slip and fall accident. We also help injured workers file workers’ compensation claims.
- How much is my case worth?
It is very hard to give an exact answer to this question, as the value of your case will depend on a number of factors. As a general rule, the more extensive the injuries or damage, the more money you will likely be able to recover. Another important factor is determining who is at fault for the accident. If the other party is found 100% at fault, then you will probably recover a lot more money. However, if the judge determines that you are partially accountable for the accident, then the amount you recover may be less. When you come to our office we can sit down with you to review your case, and give you a much better idea of how much your case is worth.
- What types of damages am I eligible to recover if I’ve been injured?
If you were injured in accident that was caused by another person’s negligence or recklessness, you can recover damages for your medical bills, on-going medical treatment expenses, any necessary adaptive equipment, lost wages, future lost wages, decreased quality of life, property damage, and pain and suffering.
- How long do I have to file a claim?
In California you only have two years to file your injury or accident claim. If you do not file your claim within this time period, also referred to as the statute of limitations, then you will lose your right to file a lawsuit and recover damages altogether. However, there are exceptions to this rule. When you come to Maas & Marinovich, we can review your case and tell you exactly how long you have to file your claim.
- What is negligence?
Negligence refers to reckless or careless acts or behavior that leads to, causes, or contributes to an accident or injury. Negligence is the most important element to any personal injury or accident case. In order to win your case, you must prove that the other party acted negligently, and is therefore liable for your injuries. Without being able to establish that the other party’s negligence lead to, caused, or contributed to your accident or injuries, you will not be able to win your case and recover damages.
- How much do your services cost?
At Maas & Marinovich we work on a contingency fee basis. This means that you will not be required to pay us any attorney fees unless we are able to recover a settlement. Once we’ve recovered a settlement, we will take a percentage of your settlement as our form of payment.
- Why should I hire an attorney?
Many people do not realize how important it is to have a skilled and experienced attorney representing you in court. The legal process can be very complex. It is very easy to make a mistake, forget to file certain documents, or miss an important deadline when you are not experienced in these matters. An attorney with extensive experience will be able to review your case, and provide you with quality advice and guidance on how to proceed forward. Your attorney will also provide you with the superior representation you need to achieve a successful outcome. At Maas & Marinovich we will review the circumstances that lead up to your accident or injury, consult expert witnesses, and collect compelling evidence. In court we will make clear and convincing arguments on your behalf, and negotiate for the largest settlement possible. With a highly skilled and trained Los Angeles injury lawyer on your side, your chances of recovering the money you deserve increase significantly.
